With the Avvy App, Invitae patients can book a blood draw for their genetic test from the comfort of home
(Montreal, QC) March 2, 2023—Avvy Health, the first company in Canada to make healthcare services accessible at home through a mobile app, has added a blood draw for the Invitae Non-Invasive Prenatal Screen to its service offering.
With the Avvy app, expectant parents can now book a blood draw appointment for their Invitae Non-Invasive Prenatal screening (NIPS) with a smartphone to access crucial genetic information when it’s convenient for them.
The test uses a simple blood draw to see if there’s a possibility that a baby is being affected by certain chromosomal disorders, including Trisomy 21. The test can also predict a baby’s sex as early as 10 weeks.
Through the partnership, Avvy will offer a rapid at-home blood draw for patients who already have a signed Invitae NIPS order form from their medical provider. Booking the blood draw through the app costs $109, and is separate from the cost of the Invitae test.
Avvy is the first Canadian app to connect patients with qualified healthcare practitioners who will drive to their residence or workplace and provide a range of services. Available for both iPhone and Android users, Avvy launched in Montreal in February 2022 and has expanded rapidly to include Montreal’s surrounding areas and Quebec City.
“Supporting maternal health is an area of focus for Avvy,” says Sarah Haji Jussab, clinician nurse and care coordinator. “We’re pleased to welcome Invitae to the platform and to work with their team to make it even easier for parents-to-be to access the information they need when and where it works for them.”
To book an Invitae NIPS Blood Draw appointment, first speak with your doctor to get a requisition for the test. You’ll then be able to download the Avvy app, create a profile, and book your blood draw.
