Safety
Our Approach to Safety
We recognize that every time you use the Avvy app, you’re trusting us to connect you with one of our qualified healthcare practitioners to visit your home and provide the healthcare service that you’ve requested.
You’re also trusting us to support you appropriately in case of an emergency.
With this responsibility in mind, we’re committed to maintaining comprehensive safety features and setting guidelines to help ensure that everyone has a respectful and positive experience.
Whether you’re booking a healthcare service or providing care, we’re committed to your safety.
Ensuring Safe Visits
Safety is our number one priority. We want you to feel safe when booking an Avvy visit, or when entering a home. Through our innovative technology, shared responsibility, and guidance from health experts, these new measures are designed to help protect the health and safety of everyone who uses our platform.
Health and safety supplies for healthcare practitioners
All healthcare practitioners working with Avvy have access to standard health and safety supplies such as face masks, disinfectants, and gloves, along with the clinical equipment needed to complete the visit.
Visit Safety Feedback
You can leave feedback about health issues, such as a healthcare practitioner not wearing a face mask or gloves. This feedback helps us improve and holds everyone accountable.
Mandatory Background Checks and Skills Testing
For your safety, Avvy follows strict background search and training protocols to ensure that every healthcare professional working with us is thoroughly vetted.
Before any Avvy healthcare practitioner is cleared to visit your home through our service, they must undergo a multi-step safety screening. This process includes:
- Checking with a licensing board to ensure the individual’s current accreditations are valid
- Confirming academic qualifications and professional credentials
- Verification of past and/or current employment
- Motor vehicle records
- A drug screen
- A criminal record check
We also test and confirm the skills and clinical knowledge of every healthcare practitioner working with us. Practitioners must recertify their license each year.
Emergency Help if You Need It
In an emergency, speed and accuracy are critical. Avvy Health does not provide emergency services. If you’re in immediate danger, you should always call 9-11 from your phone.
The app displays your live location and trip details, so you can share your location with the emergency dispatcher if necessary.
Our Support
Your care is handled by healthcare practitioners visiting your home, with support from our administrative staff. Avvy support is available during service hours at 514-212-8384.
Staying safe during COVID-19
Fully vaccinated staff
All healthcare providers working for Avvy Health are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. We actively monitor the COVID-19 status for all cities where the Avvy app is deployed and/or where our employees are working.
We also consult with a team of clinical professionals to make sure our efforts as a company are grounded in current medical practice.
We continue to monitor COVID-19 recommendations from Health Canada on an ongoing basis. More information is available on the Health Canada website.
Health and safety protocol
- Wash your hands frequently and cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze.
- Avvy healthcare providers will sanitize their hands prior to entering your home. Wear a mask while indoors. If possible, open the windows.
- If you’re sick, stay home and away from others. If you’ve received a COVID-19 diagnosis ahead of a scheduled appointment, please let us know immediately and we’ll work with you to rebook your visit.
- We do offer Avvy services if you have confirmed or suspected COVID-19 symptoms. If you suspect you have COVID-19 symptoms and wish to get a test or other service at home, please list your symptoms so our practitioners can prepare appropriately to visit you (e.g., having the right personal protective equipment).
No masks, no appointment
We all play a role in helping to keep each other safe. That’s why, as part of our door-to-door safety standards, patients and healthcare practitioners connecting through Avvy are required to wear a face mask, even when vaccinated.
Any other family members present for the visit are also required to wear a face mask. Children under six are exempted.
Supporting public health
Our team is available during service hours to support public health authorities in their pandemic response. Working with them, we may temporarily pause the accounts of patients or healthcare practitioners confirmed to have contracted or been exposed to COVID-19.
